Moog K8596 Upper Ball Joint Review

I ordered and installed the left and right arms for my '96 Thunderbird. There were absolutely no issues with fit.

There are several things you should know about these, however:

1. The dust boots are black, not blue as pictured. This is, of course, purely a cosmetic issue and will only be of concern to those who want these parts for show.

2. Not all Moog arms are made in the USA, and the non-USA joints are not as tight as the USA ones. I received a Canadian-made 8596 arm, returned it (because the boot was damaged anyway) and specifically requested a USA-made 8596 arm. I was sent another Canadian arm. Neither Canadian joint is as firm/tight as the USA joint. I discovered this is especially true with the lower arms -- USA ones are extremely tight, Canadian ones not so much.

I presume this is a matter of factory tolerances being different -- assuming identical design, materials and construction methods.
I contacted Federal-Mogul, but never heard back from them, so I don't know whether the 8596 is simply not made in USA at all, or if it's just that Amazon doesn't have the USA version (or didn't bother reading my replacement instructions).
Good luck getting matched-pair USA-made arms, from Amazon at least.

3. A new knuckle nut/bolt is supplied, but no new frame (bushing) bolts are included. This would have been very helpful in my case, since the factory "flag" bolts have rounded off heads -- tools can't grab them properly, not even a hex socket as the manual recommends.
It's a MAJOR pain to get at the nuts in the Tbird's engine compartment to remove/install the bolts that way, and torquing to spec is nigh on impossible w/o custom made open-end extension adapters for the torque wrench.

This may not apply to you, depending on your vehicle; if you have precious little clearance at the nuts, you're going to want new, NORMAL bolts for the job.
