ACDelco 15061010 OE Service Fuel Sender and Balance Pump Control Module Review

I own and operate a Repair Shop in N.Michigan, up here we have all types of poor weather, snow, ice, salt, sand. It is no wonder this part fails, it is located on the frame rail under the drivers cab side. Allthough the electronics are sealed in a plastic box with weather proof connections, weather elements will find there way inside and wipe out this module. Understand how this module controls the fuel level to the VCM and the dash gauge first. When it fails you will get a empty or full reading, loss of fuel transfer from rear tank to front tank. If either fuel level sender reading is not present at module, unit can not transfer fuel and will set service codes. This is a piss poor design from GM, they even have a TSB on how to remove the second fuel tank and by-pass it all together. The rear add on tank is molded plastic, take a look at it, it is a funnel for road debris, and once collected, rots out the fuel level sender and steal connector lines. I just went through one on a 2000 K3500 and also found the wire harness damaged/wire open/broken near the connector. The front fuel level sender operates between appox 250-50 ohms, the rear sender the same with 50 ohms empty and 250 ohms full. You cannot bypass either sender direct to VCM, Fuel Balance Module takes both readings and converts to a voltage from a VCM 5volt referance. The transfer pump will not operate unless primary fuel pump in front tank is running and Fuel Balance Module sends a ground to relay located on same bracket. If you purchase this part, and it does not fix your issue, you need to check out everything like I mentioned. Be carefull of after market rear tank sender unit, they may have used the wrong level sensor that does not read 50-250 ohms. Good luck. Scott Nelson ASE Master Auto and H/D Truck Technician.
