I was experiencing a wobble of the rear section of my car (2005 Volvo S40 2.4i) with 120,000 miles when i was on the highway or going over a small bump. It was pretty intense when I was at highway speeds, felt like my rear tires went over a patch of ice! Anyway, I took a look at my shocks on my car thru the wheel well and noticed that my driver side-rear shock had oil all over it, meaning that the top seal on the shock had failed and all the hydraulic fluid in the shock was no more. I called the local volvo dealership and they told me for parts and labor to replace the rear shocks (replace both driver and passenger side) would cost me approx $530 !! So I checked online and found these KYB 343419 GR-2 shock absorbers that would fit. Don't let the picture fool you, the top end of the shock is not an eyelet, it's just the rod, threaded just like i needed. (I compared the part # to KYB's corporate site). Anyway, I installed the shocks myself in my driveway with a jack, jackstands, and basic socket set (metric). It's three bolts both sides. I just transfered the original dust boot from the old shocks to this one. Saved myself a good chunk of money. These shocks work great, I wasn't looking for anything crazy, just wanted to bring my car back to the original handling, which these shocks did just fine. I think these shocks are gas charged, not hydraulic fluid, which doesn't bother me. Hopefully they last as long as my original shocks! I guess the next ones to go will be the foward shocks, but i'm not sure i'm capable of changing those out myself.
