Motorcraft WLR7 Lincoln LS Rear Driver Side Window Regulator Review

This is my third window regulator (all different doors) for this vehicle and likely should be the last one. It is unbelievable that Ford/Lincoln would even consider approving such short living parts, especially to a safety item such as windows.

I received this part and confirmed it's freshness. It was dated May 2011 so I figured this part is still fresh and should provide more years of service. The plastic window "shoe" or cradle that the glass slides into on these regulators is the problem to most of the reasons for failure. There's two cables which attach to this "shoe". The cable attaching locations are what fail. Likely due to the plastic material is the wrong formula or the actual design is flawed (too thin) for the amount of stress created when the window is being pulled by the upward cable. The existing part broke at this location and one of the three keepers also broke. I'm sure age has something to do with the brittle and tendency to crack/fail. Plastic and age are enemy's but the makers don't believe it I guess.

The design is great and works fine when parts are new and freshly flexible. Installation is easy and quick as long as you know to install the nylon sleeve and pin onto the hole located on the lower glass area first then, mount the regulator/inner door panel, tighten the four 11mm bolts, then lower the glass into the "shoe". You will need to confirm this alignment then, push down on the glass to snap it into the shoe. Just be sure to mount the sleeve centered to the glass or equal distance protruding from both sides of the glass. I used a pair of body panel vice grips (wide smooth jaws) to attach the sleeve onto the glass and was finished within 10 minutes. Oh, and the tip from the next oldest poster was good. Just remove the motor assembly from the old regulator via the three torx head screws. Transfer the assembly to the new and attach the three torx screws.

We'll see how this one goes.
